Things I've learned to appreciate

-Good cell service
-The existence of Wifi
-Well hidden bushes (aka bathroom stops)
-Being dry
-Warm showers
-Courteous drivers
-Well paved roads
-Intersections that have signs announcing cross streets 500 ft beforehand
-Carpeted floors (comfy sleeping :) )

  1. Yes, I still am reading your posts. They are good. I can relate to how you feel, and to what you have learned to appreciate. Until the early 2000's there was no such thing as cell phones, let alone smart phones and wifi. We biked using maps, paper maps, better known as hard copy. I appreciate your post about me. I do not look for things like that, but I do have to admit I appreciate them.
You will see many cancer patients on this trip, and hear many stories. All cancer patients have stories. Just by listening to them, you are helping a cancer patient. Keep up the good work. And, enjoy your adventure.

  2. I am permanently and totally disabled, according to the Veteran's Administration doctors. It is hard for me to accept this. I push myself hard. I do not just sit around watching TV or playing on the internet all day, or having a self-pitty party. My wife pushes me and I get out and do. Sometimes I am afraid to do things. I was afraid to ride a bicycle again. Now I am doing it and I feel being active helps fight the cancer. And most of all, being active gives me quality of life.
Many cancer patients will not talk about their condition. Some feel having cancer is a disgrace. That they did something wrong and now they have the cancer. Some hide their condition.
